What should I do if my dog broke her tail?
My son was going downstairs and my dog ran in front of him and they both tripped. My son if ok. My dog has been moaning periodically since. We noticed that she won’t go up or down the stairs and her tail seems to be just hanging down. Normally, she’s very happy and wags it all day long. I called the vet, whose office is now closed for the day and he says that not much can be done if my dog has hurt her tail and that I could give her a Tylenol and call again on Monday if she is still not well. If you’ve experienced this problem with your dog, please tell me how it was resolved. Is there anything else I should do for her? She’s sleeping right now but she makes little moaning sounds in her sleep. I can’t bear the thought that she may be hurting.
WALKING LADY, I am extremely offended that you are calling me a liar. My dog is hurt and my whole family is upset enough without some know-it-all adding insult to injury. My vet did tell me to give her Tylenol. Now, if he gave me bad advice I’ll have to question his expertise but I have no reason to lie.
stay away from the tylenol and just give her asperin evrey 4 to 6 hrs and if she is small cut the pill in half or give her a baby asa.feel her tail and back hips and legs and see if u can feel any lumps or bends along the tail or back and legs and sometimes there will be a dent and the area will protrude or be pretty swollen. the tail will heal but with a leg or hip it might need to be looked at to make sure there are no splinters of bone sticking into other spots along the injury.u can put ice packs on with a towel wrapped around and leave it on for 10 mins then u can do this a few times a day also along with the asa.if she is no better by monday or is showing more pain tommorrow call ur local vet. good luck

OMG - poor thing. There should be an emergency hospital that you can take her to. They should be able to take an exray or something.

It seems other people believe this story of yours, but I KNOW that no vet would ever tell anyone to give a dog Tylenol because vets know that Tylenol is poisonous to dogs.
I also know that no vet would tell you that not much can be done if your dog hurt her tail because sometimes the tail needs to be amputated!
If you haven’t poisoned your dog yet with the Tylenol, that take this dog to the vet to be looked after!
